Anne and Tom, foster carers

Anne and her partner Tom were not married, they had lived together for fifteen years and had three adult birth children who were living independently.

They had thought about fostering on and off for several years, there house was quiet and they missed children in the home.

Anne found the Simply Fostering website and decided to make an enquiry, six months later in 2008, Anne and Tom were approved as foster carers and three weeks later were looking after a brother and sister who could not live with their parents.

Anne is the full-time foster carer, and Tom continues to work full time.

Anne said; 'It took some time to fully understand the ins and outs of fostering and all the people involved in foster children's lives but we gradually got used to the meetings and ways of working with social workers and children's families."

Both Anne and Tom find fostering challenging at times but very rewarding as well because of the chances they can give children to experience a safe and loving home with people who will never harm them.

Anne and Tom look forward to their future as professional foster carers and Anne sees fostering as her new career.
